Tokyo Incidents (Tokyo Jihen)

Shortly after the release of her fifth studio album kalk samen kuri no hana (加爾基 精液 栗ノ花), Shiina Ringo announced that she would be leaving her solo career to front the new band Tokyo Jihen (東京事変), officially translated as The Tokyo Incidents. With Shiina on vocals, the rest of the band was comprised of Mikio Hirama on the guitar, Seiji Kameda on bass, PE'Z's HZM on keyboards, and drummer Toshiki Hata.

The band began its promotional blitz with its first single Gunjou Hiyori (群青日和) in September, 2004. It was quickly followed by a second single a month later, propelling their debut album -- Kyouiku (教育) -- into the market in November.

Although it underwent a line-up switch shortly after Kyouiku's release, the band continued to tour and record to turn out three eclectic albums--each with a distinct sound and voice of its own. Their latest original album -- Variety -- was even released in Europe via iTunes while the band continues to push musical boundaries.

The Tokyo Incidents now consists of Shiina Ringo, Kameda, Hata, Izawa Ichiyou (in for HZM on keys), and Ukigumo on guitar.
