Name Discrepancy

Shiina Ringo's name is probably the single most confusing part of her brand for foreign fans. Shiina Ringo is the Hepburn romanization of the kanji 椎名林檎 (しいな りんご/shi-i-na ri-n-go). "Shiina Ringo" is a stage name written in traditional style, meaning her family name is "Shiina" and the "given" name is "Ringo" (think Ringo Starr; not Starr Ringo)

The official romanization is "Sheena Ringo", give or take a few diacritical marks that spice up the packaging of albums like Zecchoushu (絶頂集) but have little bearing on the actual pronunciation.

I prefer "Shiina Ringo" because

1. It doesn't use superfluous accents
2. It doesn't lend itself to the idea that "Shiina" is her given name as easily as the "Sheena" spelling
3. I am a creature of habit and I learned "Shiina Ringo" first.
